In construction, most defects become expensive precisely because they are discovered late: a slab poured to the wrong level, a service left uncoordinated, or a damp-proof course bridged is trivial to fix on the day and ruinous to fix after finishes.

Hold points before cover-up
Reinforcement, services, waterproofing and damp-proofing are inspected before they are permanently concealed - the last honest opportunity to see them.
Coordinated interfaces
Integrated Project Delivery actively manages the joints where trades meet, rather than leaving them to be discovered on site.
Testing and commissioning
Services are tested and commissioned so that the building works, not merely that it is complete.
Snagging and as-built information
Handover includes closing out defects and issuing as-built information, so the client can operate and maintain what they have been given.
